Transformers

So okay, it goes like this: I have been waiting forever for the Transformers DVD to be released here in Dubai. The DVD was released months ago in the Philippines and in the US... making me wanting this thing even more. I really wanted the steelbook casing, but as I'm not familiar (yet) with other online stores that cater to collectors like me, I decided I'd just settle for the 2-disc edition - that was in October. November came and there was still no sign of the DVD in stores. So I decided to order from Amazon. Learning that standard international shipping will about 4-6 weeks, I agreed to wait thinking that at least I'll have the DVD. Well, it's mid-December and my package hasn't arrived yet. THEN when I was browsing videos stores yesterday - I found it... the steelbook version of the Transformers movie on DVD! I hurriedly bought myself a copy and drooled over the wonders of the amazing casing. Well, until my Region 1 DVD arrives, this is the copy I'll play over and over on my DVD player. Autobots, roll out!

Die Hard 4.0

I really wasn't planning on buying this, since I was waiting for Transformers. I even saw Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Grr! Too many releases to buy). But its John McClane! It's Die Hard 4.0 (Live Free or Die Hard in other countries)! It's 2-disc of non-stop adrenaline-filled action. Yipee-ka-yay!

One DVD per month

Since I have pretty much lesser time in buying and even watching DVD's, I still make it a point to at least but one each month. The time I would be going back to the Philippines would be the time I'll be buying the entire DVD sets at Astro. Haha.

Jurassic Park: The Ultimate Collection

At last! I finally have the Jurassic Park collection on DVD! Previous DVD releases were only in 3 discs, which only contain the movies, but this set contains 4 discs, with an extra disc for more special features. This is a definite buy for collectors! Sorry for the exclamation points, it just shows my excitement. :-) Though it lacks the booklet it's supposed to have. But either way, I'm happy I found this set.

Spider-Man 3

Finally, I now have the Spider-Man 3 DVD! Even though I wasn't able to like the film as much as the previous two, I still loved watching this film. It's a Region 2 disc and PAL encoded. I wish I had bought the Region 3, since it has a slipcase. At least it comes in a red colored case to match Spidey's costume... or should it be black?

I watched the Special Features disc first since I really wanted to know how they rendered Sandman's transformation... that was one cool shot.

Hot Fuzz

I don't buy DVD's here in regularly as much I buy them back in the Philippines. However, every once in a while, I can't resist buying those one-of-a-kind releases that you definitely must have in your collection. Hot Fuzz, from the makers of Shaun of the Dead, is considered to be one of the best films of the year. The good thing about this Region 2 release is that it's a two-discer, while our North American counterparts got only one. A definite must-see movie, I'll be watching this when I get the time... (So busy at work!)

300

I want this DVD! It's a 2-disc edition in a steelbook case. Too bad they're only releasing it in Region 3. I wish I was back in the Philippines. Now I only have to settle with standard Amaray cases... Grrr! For anyone who cares about me... Help me get this DVD! :-)

300 stars Gerald Butler and directed by Zack Snyder. And actually its one of my favorite films of the year.

Show me your DVDs!

PinoyDVD is an online forum that discusses topics on DVD collecting among Filipinos. I have been a member of that forum for many years now. they have a thread there titled, "Show me your DVDs". It's primary purpose is to show (and wow) other members on the amounts of DVDs they have collected. Well, here in my DVD Blog I get to boast my collection. I admit some of them are pirated copies, but now I have started collecting original ones. Whew, this is one expensive hobby.

Here some pictures of my current collection, enjoy!:

Alien Quadrilogy

This is one of the major releases I've wanted for the longest time. But I only want the 9-disc set, not the 'Alien' head that costs much more. Seeing it in stores here definitely increased my liking for that set more. Haha, time to save up again I guess. By the way, the picture is of me holding the DVD set inside Virgin Megastores. It costs 400 AED (almost 6,000 pesos). Too much, you say? Well, if you’re a collector, you’ll do anything to great lengths just to acquire something you like. More info on the Alien Quadrilogy set here.

Missing my collection

I miss my DVD's from the Philippines. Every now and then I tend to remember them everytime I see discs on display in stores. *Sigh* I better have a job now so that I'd be able to ship my collection from there to here. I miss my Scream DVD from Korea, my Texas Chainsaw Massacre from the US, my Shaun of the Dead from the UK, and yes, I even miss my Pinoy Big Brother DVD's. And even those I bought from sales... They were every bit a part of me. Hush now my children, we'll see each other again. Hahaha, sorry for that... I think I just had too much coffee.

My First DVD

Yey! The first DVD I ever bought here in Dubai. I think now is the time I should start collecting those 'Definitive Editions' the whole R2 community have been raving about.

Let me start with my first purchase. It's SPEED. Back in the Philippines, Speed was only released on a single barebones disc. Here the Definitive Edition of Speed has 2 discs, loaded with enormous amounts of special features. And did I mention it has steelbook packaging? You can read more on that
here.

Here are some pics:
